Fahy Fitzpatrick have recently started preparing short informational videos on various issues we see with our clients. These are issues which are relatively easily explained, but are often quite confusing. The aim of these videos is to help simplify certain issues, and help educate people about some of the potential property issues, and what options are available to remedy them.

TOP 5 BER guidelines for property owners:

1. Get your property certified as soon as the property goes to the market for sale or rent.
2. Engage an Assessor Company with substantial construction experience.
3. Where possible, provide the Assessor with technical information and drawings that you might have.
4. Thoroughly review the Advisory Report supplied by the BER Assessor.
5. Implement recommended changes which will in turn improve the rating.

Building Energy Rating

Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) have changed to Qualification Criteria to for a person to become a Registered Non-domestic Building Energy Rating (BER) Assessor. Previously a person had to hold a Level 8 Honours Degree (Route 1) or be a member of the Energy Assessor Accreditation Schemes in the UK (Route 2) in order to sit the entry exams. SEI have decided to discontinue Route 2 and have lowered the Route 1 entry requirement to Level 7 Ordinary Degree. Are these changes a good or bad thing for the industry?
